IoT devices like sensors, beacons, tracker, and plugs are hardware programmed for a specific application and is able to process, store and transfer data to the cloud that is connected to the Internet. Developers can use different protocols such as wifi, Bluetooth, LoRaWAN, ZigBee, and NB-IoT to realize different features and characteristics.

Users can also pass their commands through the system in the opposite direction: from the user interface, to the cloud, and back to the sensor/device to make some kind of change.
